Selected to compete in the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship, Western Kentucky’s softball team is headed to the Atlanta regional where Alabama State, Kennesaw State, UT Martin and Georgia State will also compete. The double-elimination postseason regional is slated for Tuesday through Thursday.
WKU’s first opponent on the Georgia State campus will be Alabama State (21-33) out of the SWAC. Game time is set for noon CDT Tuesday. A victory would put the Hilltoppers back in action right away with a 3 p.m. contest against Kennesaw State (36-18). With a loss versus Alabama State, the Hilltoppers would drop into the loser’s bracket and await the loser of the Georgia State (34-23)-UT Martin (38-18) game for an 11 a.m. contest Wednesday.
The Hilltoppers received a selection to the NISC based on their National RPI ranking in the top-100.
Regional hosts are Pacific, Weber State, Illinois State, Lamar, Georgia State and Liberty. Each double-elimination regional concludes play Thursday; the six-team championship round, also double elimination, will run May 21-24 at a host site to be determined.{&end}
