An adjustment by Warren East freshman outfielder Olivia Price paid big dividends during the Lady Raiders’ 6-2 win over visiting Allen County-Scottsville on Monday at Warren East.

Price finished a triple shy of the cycle, driving home three runs, to pace a 12-hit attack for Warren East (19-5).

“I had to adjust with my hands because I have been struggling a little bit,” Price said. “I had to make adjustments with the pitches – do what I can to put balls in play.”

Western Kentucky signee Kendall Smith got the scoring started with a home run leading off the bottom of the first, her 14th of the season and 46th of her career.

ACS elected to intentionally walk Smith her other three at-bats, but Price and the rest of the lineup made sure the offense wouldn’t stall.

After Allen County-Scottsville (14-12) tied the score on an unearned run in the top of the third, Price delivered an opposite field two-run home run to left center to push Warren East back in front, 3-1.

The Lady Patriots got an RBI double from KrisAnn Pardue to make the score 3-2 in the fourth, but the Lady Raiders got some distance in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Price and a sacrifice fly by Caitlin Howard.

Price doubled with one out in the sixth and came home to score on a ground out by Katie Gardner – capping the Lady Raiders’ scoring.

“I was very proud of our at-bats tonight,” WE coach Philip McKinney said. “We hit the ball to the left side. We hit the ball to the right side. We laid down bunts. I thought we were very productive 1 through 9.”

Gardner went the distance to earn the win and surpass Ramona Capshaw for the school record in career wins with 52. The right-hander allowed three hits and one earned run with 12 strikeouts and two walks.

“They are a very good hitting lineup,” McKinney said. “I thought Katie did an excellent job. She battled with Daviess County on Saturday, eight innings and held them to two runs, so she is a little sore tonight. She’ll have a few days off.”

Nicki Gibbs and Jeyda Bays had two hits each for Warren East.

Taylor Stamps and RaeAnn Stafford both had a hit and a run scored for Allen County.

“Olivia put the hurting on us a little bit,” ACS coach Robert Bunton said. “She hit the ball really good. I thought all the way from 1 to 9 they could hit it and they could put it where they needed to. They got after it. They got 12 hits against us. Most of the time when you have 12 hits you are going to score runs and you are going to win games.”

Warren East will host Russellville at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, while Allen County-Scottsville will host Russell County at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
