Marshall pitcher Jordan Dixon threw a no-hitter Thursday, lifting the 23rd-ranked Thundering Herd to a 2-0 victory against Western Kentucky in the Conference USA Softball Tournament.

Dixon allowed a walk to Rebekah Engelhardt and hit Taylor Proctor with a pitch. Those were the only two baserunners to reach for the eighth-seeded Hilltoppers (29-28).

Dixon struck out eight batters. She fanned Brittany Vaughn three times, Morgan McElroy twice and three other hitters once.

Top-seeded Marshall (41-8) scored its two runs off WKU starting pitcher Kathryn Downing. The first came on a Morgan Zerkle solo home run in the third inning, and the second came in the fifth inning off a Topper error.

The Hilltoppers move into the losers’ bracket of the C-USA Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss. They’ll face third-seeded Louisiana Tech at 12:30 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.
