Former Tops WR Norris headed to Washington camp

Nicholas Norris and Anthony “Ace” Wales combined to score 44 touchdowns last season for Western Kentucky. Now the two former Hilltoppers will try to earn a spot on the same NFL team.
The wide receiver Norris earned a camp invite Monday from the Washington Redskins, agent Shawn O’Dare posted on Twitter.

Norris will be going to a Redskins team that also issued the former WKU running back Wales a camp invite last week.
Norris caught 76 passes last season for 1,318 yards with 14 touchdowns. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound Miami native also carried the ball 13 times for 222 yards with another TD.
Norris ranks second to former teammate Taywan Taylor on the Toppers’ all-time lists for career receptions (194), receiving yards (3,091) and touchdown receptions (26).
QUARTERS, SEMIS IN REGION 4 TENNIS UNDERWAY TUESDAY
Quarterfinals and semifinals will take place Tuesday in the Region 4 Tennis Tournament at Warren Central and Warren East.
Greenwood seventh-grader and No. 1 seed Jacks Lancaster will play Bowling Green’s Renit Patel in the boys’ singles quarterfinals. Lancaster and Patel each swept their second round opponents and will play at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Warren Central.

Greenwood’s Michelle Lancaster, the top-seed in girls’ singles, will play Bowling Green’s Hadley McCormick at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Warren East.
Other girls’ singles matches include Greenwood’s Hope Frederick, Bowling Green’s Sydney Johnson and South Warren’s Alexis Lindsey, who all play at 7 p.m.
In boys’ singles, South Warren’s Luke Winiger will play Jonas Heartl of Greenwood and two-time defending region champion Amrit Avula of Bowling Green will play Allen County-Scottsville’s Wesley Fisher. All boys’ singles will play at 4 p.m. At Warren Central.
Greenwood’s boys doubles teams of Jacob Young/Austin Schneller and Chris Agro/Tanner Gann will play at 4 and 5 p.m., respectively. South Warren’s doubles team of Chessman Robbins/Aaron Cassady will play Bowling Green’s Will Taylor/John Guthrie. Spencer Cassady/Adam Riley also advance for South Warren.
In girls’ doubles, defending champions Natalie Noble/Sydney Cassedy of South Warren will play Greenwood’s Maggie Mullins/Sierra Earnhart at 4:30 p.m. Also advancing in girls’ doubles is Greenwood’s Catherine Gott/Samantha Springs, South Warren’s Deanna Taylor/Madison Pardue and Bowling Green’s Miriam Reber/Jordan Johnson.
Each player/team that advances to the semifinals will automatically qualify for the state tournament.
GRAND SLAM LIFTS LOGAN COUNTY OVER BOWLING GREEN
Kaleb Justice hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning Monday to turn a scoreless game into a 4-0 Logan County victory at Bowling Green High School.
Logan Bowen and Dylan Penick went back and forth in the pitchers’ duel until Logan County (18-7) broke through in the eighth.
Bowen got the first two outs before walking Austin Rayno and giving up a hit to Jackson Campbell.
Luke Brown entered to replace Bowen and loaded the bases before giving up the grand slam to Justice on a 1-1 count.
Trevor Dennis grounded out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to end it.
Dylan Penick struck out nine for Logan County and allowed three hits in a complete game. Bowen struck out six in 7 2/3 innings for the Purples (19-10).

Warren Central 0

Alex Gilbert drove in four runs and the Wildcats’ jumped on Warren Central early in a 12-0 five-inning win Monday. Jackson Caudill and Clay Spears each had two hits for the Wildcats, who scored five runs in the second inning.
Donavon Alderson struck out 10 in four innings and gave up Warren Central’s only hit, a Justin Alvey single to lead off the game.
Cumberland County 1,
Greenwood 0
One run in the first inning was all Cumberland County needed to put away the Gators on Monday.
A two-out single from Kyle Stephenson put Cumberland County ahead early for the team’s only hit.
Ryan Wheeler had the only hit for the Gators (14-15) in the top of the sixth.
Freshman Dell Henk went six innings with five strikeouts and walked two. Cumberland County’s Levi Owens went the distance with eight strikeouts and didn’t issue a walk while allowing the one hit.
Softball
Greenwood 10,
Franklin-Simpson 5
The Lady Gators scored six runs in the first inning and held off a late Franklin-Simpson rally to win 10-5 on Monday. The Lady Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the sixth to cut the Greenwood lead to 7-5.
Kaylie Allen hit a two-run single into center field to make it 9-5 and Greenwood added another run on an error for the five-run victory.
Madison Davis put Franklin-Simpson ahead in the first with a solo home run before the Lady Gators (14-10) went off for six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Greenwood totaled 15 hits on Davis, who pitched six innings for Franklin-Simpson (13-12).
Maddie Thomas went 5 2/3 innings for Greenwood and allowed five hits, five earned runs and struck out seven.
