Western Kentucky fell short in a bid to sweep a three-game series against Charlotte, dropping a 2-0 decision Saturday at the WKU Softball Complex.

The Hilltoppers managed just two hits in the game, a double by Adarian Gray and a single from Jordan Mauch.

Charlotte (24-19 overall, 6-9 Conference USA) got a complete-game effort from starting pitcher Haley Wiseman, who struck out six in the shutout.

WKU (24-22, 8-10) also got a complete game from starter Kathryn Downing, who took the loss despite allowing only two runs (none earned) off five hits. She struck out three.

The Hilltoppers return to action at Louisville on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m. CDT.
