A seven-run bottom of the fourth frame was the difference Friday night as Western Kentucky’s baseball team fell to UTSA by a score of 14-2 at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas.

Colie Currie and Tyler Robertson each posted multi-hit games and scored a run in the second inning.

Following a scoreless first, Currie singled to center field and was bunted to second by Hunter Wood. Wyatt Featherston followed with an RBI single up the middle to score the Hilltoppers’ first run of the game. Although Featherston was picked off, Robertson got the rally going again with a bunt single down the left field line. Kevin Lambert hit his second RBI double in as many games to score Robertson with two outs and give the visitors a two-run advantage.

The Roadrunners tied the game in the third with a two-run home run by Jesse Baker, then added seven in the following frame, which included a two-run double from Skyler Valentine and a Kevin Markham grand slam.

WKU loaded the bases two times in the final six innings, but were unable to get another run across. UTSA added two in the sixth and three in the seventh to reach the final mark.

The Hilltoppers and Roadrunners will square up for Game 2 of the series Saturday, with first pitch at 2 p.m. Right-hander Paul Kirkpatrick is scheduled to start for WKU and Tyler Giovanoni will start for the hosts.
