BG’s Robinson sets new school high jump mark at APSU meet

Bowling Green freshman Laila Robinson tied a school record and recorded the best jump so far among Class 3A high jumpers at Saturday’s APSU High School Classic in Clarksville, Tenn.
Robinson took first place with a jump of 5 feet, 4 inches.
South Warren’s boys’ team finished fourth in the meet, while Bowling Green’s boys’ were 19th. In the girls’ competition, Bowling Green finished eighth and South Warren was 12th.
Joining Robinson with scoring finishes for Bowling Green’s girls were Jasmine Varner in the 100-meter hurdles (second), 300 hurdles (third) and 100 (seventh); Kristin Dent in the 3,200 (sixth) and 800 (eighth); and Grace Klusty in the 200 (eighth).
Scorers for South Warren’s girls were Caroline Haas in the 3,200 (second) and 1,600 (third); Abby Minnicks in the shot put (fourth); Zayana Bailey in the triple jump (seventh); and Katlin Barnes in the 1,600 (eighth) and 3,200 (eighth).
In the boys’ competition, South Warren got scoring finishes from Ashton Amos in the 300 hurdles (second) and 100 (sixth); Luke Spuirrer in the 800 (second) and 1,600 (fourth); Carter Chavira in the 3,200 (third) and 1,600 (eighth); Matt Wininger in the 3,200 (sixth); Kyle Woodward in the 3,200 (eighth); Peter Furgal in the 2,000 steeplechase (eighth); Mike Kaczynski in the long jump (fifth); Olawande Ayeni in the triple jump (third); and Mike Nwanguma in the discus (third) and shot put (eighth).
Bowling Green’s boys’ scorers were Christopher Grinstead in the 2,000 steeplechase (third); Devan Jackson in the 800 (eighth), and John Downing in the 110 hurdles (eighth).
Baseball
Logan Co. 11, Rossview (Tenn.) 10
Visiting Logan County picked up an 11-10 baseball win over Rossview (Tenn.) on Saturday.
Kaleb Justice was 4-for-5 with three doubles to pace the Cougars. Justice finished with three RBIs and scored three runs.
Also for Logan County (9-1), Austin Rayno was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, and Koby Wall drove in two runs.
Dylan Penick started and got the win, allowing three earned runs in 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
Logan County is back in action Tuesday against visiting Cumberland County. Game time is 2 p.m.
Softball
Allen Co.-Scottsville 6, Boyle Co. 5
Host Allen County-Scottsville earned a 6-5 softball win over Boyle County on Saturday.
Ryley Whitney hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs to pace the Lady Patriots. Kalee Skaggs added a 3-for-4 day with an RBI and a run scored, and Kris-Anne Pardue and Rae Ann Stafford had two hits each for ACS (5-3).
Pardue earned the win with a complete-game effort. She struck out six.
ACS is back in action April 11 at Monroe County.
