Traveling in the Bowling Green area? There’s an app for that.
The Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched its new cellphone app.

The app is available for free at the iTunes and Google Play app stores by searching “Visit Bowling Green Kentucky” or “VisitBGKY.”
“We’ve been going back-and-forth for years on developing an app,” CVB Marketing Director Marissa Butler said. “We think it will address a whole segment of visitors that we may have been missing the last few years.”
Millennials, a growing force in the marketplace, are particularly fond of the dynamics of a cellphone app.
“They want to know what’s the easiest route,” Butler said. “They want to know what’s nearby the attraction that they are visiting.”
The mobile tool provides the most up-to-date details on area attractions, hotels, events, restaurants and shops.
The traveler can plan an itinerary by adding attractions, listings and events; search by restaurants, shops and hotels; use GPS-enabled directions; save local events to a cellphone calendar; or check out special offers and discounts, according to a news release from the CVB.

Butler said many travelers still love to plan, enjoy and remember their getaways with the printed brochures.
“Our printed visitor’s guide is not going away. The app will continue to be a complementary piece along with our re-designed website,” Butler said.
The popular visitor’s guide, once again emphasizing Bowling Green area as “Geared for Fun,” is just about ready for the annual printing before eventual distribution in late April and May.
Butler said the app takes the user directly to the listings and the attractions found on the website.
“It zeroes in on the nitty-gritty,” she said.
Users of the app also can directly connect with the CVB on social media, read the “i love bg” blog, receive notifications of new offerings, and share listings with friends in their network via text, email or social media, the release said.
Enhanced driving and walking tours will be available later this summer with added multimedia components, officials said.
