Morris leads WKU track finishers at Music City Challenge

Western Kentucky University’s track and field team wrapped up its final tune-up before the 2017 Conference USA Indoor Championships at the Vanderbilt-hosted Music City Challenge in Nashville.
Julius Morris led the Hilltoppers with a first-place finish in the 200-meter event for his third event crown of the season.
“We had some positive results this weekend,” WKU coach Erik Jenkins said in a news release. “This was our final tune-up before the conference championships and I like the direction we are headed.”
Morris also earned a spot in the 60 meter finals after clocking a 6.79 in the prelims. Joining Morris in the finals was Eli Minor, who finished third in the event with a time of 6.74. Minor also picked up a top-eight finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.97.
In addition to Morris and Minor, Will Bush (21.88) and Austin Hayes (21.93) secured sixth and seventh place, respectively, in the 200 meters.
Ventavius Sears earned a runner-up finish in the long jump, clearing 7.56 meters, as well as a fourth-place finish in the triple jump. Sears covered 15.24 meters in the event. Desmond Mobley also picked up a top-eight finish in the long jump, recording a jump of 7.28 meters.
WKU senior Emmanuel Dasor pulled in his second runner-up finish in the 400-meter run. Dasor clocked a 46.52 in the race.
Rounding out the top-eight finishers on the men’s side was Jonathan Hayden, who picked up a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.04 in the finals.
On the women’s side, Khadijah Valentine took home sixth place in the 200 meters with a time of 24.41. The finish marked her second top-eight finish in the event in 2017.
In the weight throw, Jenessa Jackson continued her top-10 finish streak with a throw of 19.44 meters. Jackson finished eighth in the event for her sixth top-10 finish in the weight throw on the season.
Next weekend, the Hilltoppers will head to Birmingham, Ala., for the Conference USA Indoor Championships. Action is slated for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19.
