Allen man’s death being treated as homicide

An Allen County man was found dead in his home Saturday in a case that authorities are treating as a homicide.

Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the home on Hade Ball Road, where they found the body of Wendell Jackson, 38.

Allen County Sheriff Jeff Cooke said Jackson’s body was found by his stepfather and that investigators determined that foul play was involved in his death.

Jackson’s body was scheduled to undergo an autopsy Sunday. Cooke said he was not aware of any preliminary results of the autopsy.

Rescue — Three people were rescued after their canoe overturned on Drakes Creek as they were duck hunting.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Technical Rescue Team and other emergency personnel responded at 4:40 p.m. Sunday to a call for a water rescue on the creek at Phil Moore Park, according to a news release from Bowling Green/Warren County Emergency Management.

One of the three hunters was able to make it to the bank of the creek and the other two men were able to steady themselves on a log in the water.

The county technical rescue team and Bowling Green Fire Department began boat deployment rescue operations after arriving at the scene.

The hunters were pulled from the water and received treatment at the scene, with one person transported to The Medical Center for observation.

None of the people in the kayak was wearing a life jacket at the time of the rescue, according to the news release.

Arrest — Navetta Wickware, 47, of Louisville, was arrested about 3 a.m. Sunday based on allegations that she led deputies on a pursuit that ended on Interstate 65.

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a blue Nissan Versa at Veterans Memorial Highway and Kentucky Street, but the vehicle failed to stop and led deputies on a pursuit that ended on I-65 around the 32-mile marker.

Wickware was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer), first-degree fleeing or evading police, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs (aggravating circumstances), reckless driving, speeding, failure to produce insurance card, no registration receipt, possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle and no or expired registration.

She is lodged in Warren County Regional Jail on $10,000 cash bond.
