Appointments top commission agenda

Appointments to various board and agencies top a small agenda for the Bowling Green City Commission’s first meeting of 2017.
At Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall, commissioners are expected to vote on:
•appointing Commissioner Joe Denning as mayor pro tem. The position, which is responsible for handling mayoral functions in the mayor’s absence, has traditionally gone to the top vote-getter in the last commission election, which in this case was Denning. Melinda Hill was the mayor pro tem but did not seek re-election to unsuccessfully challenge state Rep. Jody Richards, D-Bowling Green, for his District 20 House seat. Denning is also up for appointments to the city’s Audit Committee and Workforce Recruitment and Outreach Committee.
•appointing Commissioner Sue Parrigin to the Warren County Downtown Economic Development Authority. Hill had also been the city commission representative on the authority board. City Chief Financial Officer Jeff Meisel is the other city government representative on the authority. Parrigin is also up for appointment to the Job Development Incentive Program Committee.
•appointing Commissioner Rick Williams to the Bowling Green Municipal Utilities Board.
•appointing incoming Commissioner Brian “Slim” Nash to the Job Development Incentive Program Committee and the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force. Nash was the sole newcomer elected to the commission in November.
