SAE fraternity hit with one-year suspension

Students in Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Western Kentucky University are no longer allowed to participate in campus activities as a group following three violations of WKU’s alcohol policy.
Charley Pride, who directs student activities on campus, said a disciplinary committee took action after it was discovered the fraternity had alcohol in its house three times. Pride said the latest violation marks the third strike for the group since last May.
Pride was unsure about whether the students will be allowed to continue living in the fraternity’s house located at the corner of Alumni Avenue and Center Street. The property is owned by the fraternity’s housing corporation, and Pride said the university doesn’t have a say in whether students live there.
The suspension is in effect for one year, meaning the group won’t be able to participate in Greek Week or other campus events as a group until the spring of 2018.
“I hope it can become a teachable moment to them as well as others,” Pride said, describing the incidents as unfortunate.
