Meredith wins Brownsville mayoral race

Jerry Meredith won Brownsville’s mayoral race Tuesday, according to unofficial totals. 

Meredith received 179 votes to Roger Stevenson’s 112 votes, with nine of nine precincts reporting.

In the city council race, Jeremy Spainhoward was first with 227 votes. The five other winners were Stephanie Stewart Gibson, 207; Greg Nugent, 180; Anthony “Slug” Duvall, 163; Silas “Sonny” Prunty, 158; and Justin Meredith, 148.

Edmonson County Clerk Kevin Alexander said 59 percent of the registered voters turned out Tuesday.

“There was a line of 45 people when we started today,” Alexander said of voting at Edmonson County Middle School. “It was a good day.”
