Three locals receive Bevin appointments

Gov. Matt Bevin appointed three local people to state boards and commissions, a news release said Friday.

Mark Mudd of Morgantown, a retired engineer and piano technician, was appointed to the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 38th Judicial Circuit and District. Mudd’s term will expire Jan. 1, 2018.

Kentucky’s chief justice serves as commission chairman. 

State Board of Education member Gary Wayne Houchens of Bowling Green, an associate professor at Western Kentucky University for educational administration, leadership and research, was appointed to the Education Commission of the States and will serve at the pleasure of the governor.

The Education Commission of the States is an interstate compact created in 1965 to improve public education by facilitating the exchange of information, ideas and experiences among state policymakers and education leaders.

Summer Watson of Glasgow, a counselor at Heart Cry for Hope PLLC, was appointed to the Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors for a term that ends Sept. 23, 2020.

The Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors consists of seven gubernatorial appointees. The board regulates and controls the licensing and conduct of professional counselors.
