GLASGOW — A Barren County man charged in a deadly crash appeared in court Monday for the first time since his indictment.

Timmy L. Hudgins, 24, of Glasgow, was arraigned in Barren Circuit Court on charges of second-degree manslaughter, first-degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating on a suspended/revoked license.

Hudgins is accused of being intoxicated behind the wheel during a Sept. 3 crash on Pritchardsville Road that resulted in the death of a passenger, Elizabeth Kingrey, 22, of Cave City.

According to court records, a 2004 Pontiac left the right shoulder of the road and struck a culvert. Kingrey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hudgins was arrested by the Barren County Sheriff’s Office and charged initially with second-degree manslaughter and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.

A Barren County grand jury returned an indictment last week that added the felony charge of first-degree wanton endangerment and the drug paraphernalia and revoked license charges.

Hudgins is accused in the indictment of placing passenger Ashley Vaughn in danger by his actions and of possessing a syringe and a pipe at the time of the crash.

At a preliminary hearing held in September, Deputy Adam Bow testified that law enforcement encountered Hudgins, who was not injured in the crash, wearing a seat belt and sitting in the driver’s seat of the Pontiac.

“Hudgins advised he used methamphetamine prior to operating the vehicle,” Bow said at the September hearing, testifying that Hudgins stated he used the drug between six and eight hours before the crash.

In an arrest citation, Hudgins is described as “unable to sit still” and “very jittery” while speaking with law enforcement.

Bow testified in September that Hudgins claimed that a black pickup truck had caused him to leave the road, but police were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description Hudgins had offered.

No brake marks or skid marks were found at the scene of the crash, Bow said.

Barren Circuit Judge John Alexander set a $250,000 cash bond for Hudgins, who is in Barren County Detention Center.
