Bowling Green city commissioners on Tuesday are scheduled to vote on providing $80,000 for a new GO bg transit route on Lovers Lane.
At Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. meeting at city hall, commissioners are being asked to approve the funds for Community Action of Southern Kentucky, which operates the GO bg transit system.
Ken Merideth, public transit coordinator for Community Action of Southern Kentucky, previously said the Lovers Lane service, being designated the pink route, is being spurred by the continuing expansion of services and businesses in that corridor, including two dialysis centers, LifeSkills, numerous medical offices and other public agency offices.
“Many of the businesses that moved to the Lovers Lane corridor were (previously) on our transit system” Merideth said.
The new pink line would offer nine round trips per day between Greenwood Mall and Lovers Lane, according to a proposal for expansion document by Community Action.
Two buses for the new route have been obtained through a federal grant. The route, which could begin by mid-November if the funding is approved, would initially operate between about 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the possibility of expanded hours if more funding becomes available, Merideth said.
The United Way of Southern Kentucky earlier this month announced a $10,000 donation to Community Action for the Lovers Lane route.
Also on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting are:
•approving a $387,486 bid from Gist Construction of Columbia for building a multi-use trail at the Lovers Lane Soccer Complex. The trail would be composed of stone and concrete and would circle the complex.
•accepting a bid of $271,549 from Gillie Hyde Auto Group of Glasgow for three dump trucks equipped with snow plows and two salters for the city’s Public Works division.
•approving a $73,200 bid from Arnold Consulting Engineering Services Inc. for design work on the ongoing widening of Smallhouse Road.
•approving various tax incentives packages for businesses that are opening or expanding in the city limits. Up for approval are an approximate $732,000 incentive for Kobelco Aluminum Products & Extrusions that is building a new plant with an estimated 105 new jobs at the South Central Kentucky Industrial Park; an approximate $109,000 in incentives for SCA Personal Care, which is expanding its Louisville Road facility; and an approximately $150,000 incentive for American Howa, which is expanding its facility at the Transpark.
