Warren judge will hear Allen murder case against The Reverend

SCOTTSVILLE — An Allen County man who legally changed his name to The Reverend has been formally charged with murder, and a special judge has been appointed to oversee the case.

Formerly known as Robert Allen Reynolds, the 36-year-old man was indicted Sept. 28 by an Allen County grand jury on a county of murder in connection with the death of Gary Glueck, 71, of Scottsville.

The two men were roommates at Scottsville Manor assisted living facility on Feb. 25 when Glueck was slain there. 

According to court records, The Reverend told police that he stabbed Glueck and wrapped an electrical cord around his neck.

The Reverend is scheduled to be arraigned in Allen Circuit Court on Nov. 15, and Warren Circuit Judge Steve Wilson will preside over the case as an appointed special judge, according to documents filed Monday in Allen Circuit Court.

Allen Circuit Judge Janet Crocker recused herself from hearing the case due to a conflict of interest.

A public defender was appointed for The Reverend in March when he made his first court appearance after his arrest, and he was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine his competency to assist in his own defense and understand the nature of the charge against him and the potential consequences.

A scheduled preliminary hearing was waived and the case was presented to a grand jury.

Court records indicate that The Reverend spoke of admiration for the infamous convict Charles Manson in the aftermath of the slaying, and posts on a number of social media websites associated with The Reverend make references to Satanism and a self-created faith he terms Reynoldsianism.

“I’m schizophrenic and there’s no cure,” a Jan. 27 post on one of a number of Facebook sites linked to The Reverend states. “Everyday folks here at (Scottsville Manor) have to do everything for me, but I need it.”
