Three people were injured and a Simpson County Sheriff’s deputy’s car sustained several thousand dollars in damage after a pursuit Thursday night that started near the East Cedar Street area.
At 6:48 p.m. Deputy Cory Jones attempted to stop a 1991 Ford pick up truck on an alleged traffic offense, Simpson County Sheriff Jere D. Hopson said. The truck, driven by Coty Brimm, of Clarksville, Tenn., did not stop. During the course of the pursuit which continued out Ky. 100 toward Russellville, deputies learned that the truck had been reported stolen about a week ago out of Hendersonville, Tenn. Another cruiser driven by Deputy Adam Swindall entered the pursuit with Swindall passing the truck.
Hopson said Brimm intentionally rammed Swindall’s cruiser in which Deputy Cody Snazelle was riding as a passenger. The Ford truck then drove parallel to Swindall’s cruiser striking the cruiser again in an attempt to run Swindall off of the road, Hopson said.
Brimm lost control of the truck flipping it into a ditch. Two passengers were inside the truck, Allan Deaton and Mary Tosh, both of Madison, Tenn. All three were injured and taken to Nashville hospitals. Hopson did not know the conditions of the three or their ages. However, he said that none of the three sustained life-threatening injuries.
Brimm and Tosh had outstanding warrants in Tennessee, and Brimm was believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the pursuit, Hopson said.
The deputies were not injured. The investigation is ongoing with criminal charges expected, Hopson said.
