State police find and destroy more than 5,000 pot plants

Kentucky State Police Cannabis Suppression Branch found more than 5,000 marijuana plants Monday just outside Tompkinsville in a corn field on Mill Creek Road near the city reservoir, according to a news release from KSP.

The KSP Cannabis Suppression Branch, along with troopers from KSP Post 15 in Columbia, the Tompkinsville Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, worked Monday and Tuesday for more than 30 hours to eradicate and destroy 5,624 marijuana plants.

No arrest has been made at this time, but the investigation is ongoing. 

Wreck — A Greenville man was injured in a single-vehicle wreck Tuesday evening on the William Natcher Parkway, resulting in the parkway’s closure for nearly an hour.

Kentucky State Police responded to the wreck at 5:15 p.m. at the 8-mile marker in Warren County, where Michael Lear, 39, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound when he went into the median and crossed the southbound lanes. The truck overturned, according to a release from KSP.

Lear was taken by medical helicopter to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment of his injuries.

The investigation is is ongoing.

Assault —At about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Warren County sheriff’s deputies were called to the 200 block of Kelly Road after a neighbor called 911 about a man and a woman arguing, according to a release from the WCSO.

When deputies arrived, they found Lisa Edgin, 46, of Hendersonville, Tenn., injured. Deputies determined that she suffered the injuries during an argument with Mark Walker, 61, of Portland, Tenn.

Edgin was taken to The Medical Center for treatment. Walker was charged with second-degree assault (domestic violence), tampering with physical evidence and menacing. He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.

Sodomy indictment —The Barren County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate Preston R. Wright on a Barren County grand jury indictment charging him with first-degree sodomy.

Anyone with information about Wright’s whereabouts may call the sheriff’s office at 270-651-2771 or 270-646-8771. 

Wright is white, 28 years old and weighs about 185 pounds.

Theft — A man living in Covington Oaks Apartments told the Bowling Green Police Department on Sept. 28 that someone entered his garage and stole more than $11,000 in electronic equipment used for providing disc jockey services.

Scam — A woman who thought she was buying a car off Craigslist was scammed out of $2,000 in Amazon gift cards Sept. 23, according to BGPD records.

The supposed seller asked for the gift cards to make the transaction more secure. But the buyer never received the car, records show.

Police are attempting to electronically track the fraudulent exchange.
