A Scottsville man apparently made a public apology on Facebook just minutes before the mother of his infant child was shot to death Monday.
Ethan Reid, 23, is charged with murder-domestic violence in the shooting death of Kayla Hodges, 20, while their child was in the home.
Allen County Sheriff’s Office Detective William Francis and Scottsville Police Department Detective John Rose responded to 395 Huff Lane at 5:24 p.m. Monday and found Hodges shot once in the back on the front porch of the mobile home she shared with Reid’s mother, Rose said. Reid lived down the road. Hodges is originally from Portland, Tenn., but had been staying with Reid’s mother, Rose said.
Hodges was running away from Reid at the time she was shot, Rose said.
“He was pretty well intoxicated,” Rose said of Reid at the time of the shooting.
Allen County EMS responded, found a pulse on Hodges and began driving her to The Medical Center at Scottsville, where she later died, according to Rose and Allen County Coroner Darren Davis.
Police found Reid inside the home. Neighbor Brian Groves had struggled with Reid before sitting on him until police arrived, Rose said. Reid and Hodges’ 7-month-old daughter, Evie, was also inside the home but was not injured.
“The neighbor had heard what was going on over there and went over to help out,” Rose said.
An apology was posted at 4:59 p.m. Monday on a Facebook account that police believe belongs to Reid.
“Sorry guys. I’m truly not this bad of a person. I’ve been pushed to this point over of time. I’m dissapointed in myself too. I could have been so much more. It’s so sad. I’m a terrible person overall. Learn from my mistakes. Just know this was never my intentions. I love all of you. I’m just not meant to be happy. Ever. I’m sorry. I love you all. Xoxo- Ethan Reid<3,” the post states.
The post is followed by more than 100 comments, ranging from people offering at first to help Reid and later expressing anger toward him after learning of Hodges’ death.
Reid and Hodges had an off-and-on relationship, Rose said. Rose was not aware Tuesday morning of there being any domestic violence or emergency protective orders in place on the couple.
Reid is lodged in Allen County Detention Center in Scottsville without bond.
This death marks the fifth homicide in 12 months in Scottsville.
