BGHS grad Hollis named tri-captain for Columbia football team

Columbia University senior wide receiver Scooter Hollis (Bowling Green Class of 2012) was named as one of three senior captains for the Lions on Tuesday by head coach Al Bagnoli.

Last year, Hollis led the Lions in receiving with 51 receptions for 515 yards and a touchdown. He ranked seventh in the Ivy League in receptions (51) and 10th in receiving yards per game (51.5). Over his four-year career, Hollis has made 75 catches for 759 yards and two touchdowns.

Columbia opens its 2016 season on Sept. 17 when it hosts St. Francis U (Pa.) at 1 p.m. at Lawrence Wien Stadium.

Eastern Kentucky redshirt senior defensive lineman LaJuan Smith (Glasgow Class of 2012) helped the Colonels even their season record to .500 with a 55-14 win over visiting Pikeville on Thursday night.

Smith totaled four tackles and a fumble recovery in the win, as EKU rallied from a 14-7 deficit to pull away against the NAIA program.

The Colonels return to action Sept. 17 with a road game at FBS program Ball State.

Campbellsville University sophomore Kylie Withrow (Barren County Class of 2015) fired a career-low round of 70 on Day 1 of the SCAD-Atlanta Fall Invitational in Covington, Ga.

Withrow shot an 80 in the second round of the two-day tournament that ended on Wednesday, finishing with a two-round 150. She tied for 14th individually in the tournament, helping the Tigers to a third-place team finish.

Campbellsville returns to action Sept. 12-13 in the Bill Sergent Invitational, hosted by University of the Cumberlands, at Crooked Creek Country Club in London.

Asbury University junior setter Rachyl Miller (Logan County Class of 2014) helped the Eagles earn their first volleyball win of the season on Tuesday at Berea.

Miller finished with a team-high 20 assists and chipped in five digs in Asbury’s 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-16) victory.

The Eagles are back in action Sept. 13 at the University of the Cumberlands.
