Hot Rods finish perfect road trip with win over Lugnuts

Finishing off a week away from home and a three-game series against the Lansing Lugnuts at Cooley Law School Stadium, the Bowling Green Hot Rods rolled to their eighth straight win with a 4-2 victory Friday night. 

In the second start of his career, Bowling Green’s Tyler Brashears gave up one run in a season-high seven innings while giving up six hits and recording six strikeouts. The 21-year-old righty has won both of his starts this year and is now 6-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 56 innings pitched this year.

Bowling Green got a bases-loaded two-run double from catcher Brett Sullivan and a RBI single from first basemen Kewby Meyer against Robson to go up by a score of 3-1 in the top of the sixth.

Bowling Green scored their final run in the ninth inning on an error.

Hot Rods righty Yoel Espinal secured his second save of the year with two scoreless innings.

Bowling Green is now alone in first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division in the second half with a 27-13, a half-game ahead of the South Bend Cubs.

THot Rods secured their first road trip of six or more games without a loss in franchise history. The victory also ties the Hot Rods team record with eight straight road wins dating back to last road trip set one other time back in 2012.

Bowling Green returns home on Saturday to face the West Michigan Whitecaps to Bowling Green Ballpark for the first of four games. The Hot Rods will start pitcher Jose Mujica, while the Whitecaps will counter with Kyle Dowdy.
