The Wal-Mart Supercenter at 150 Walton Ave. in Bowling Green is highlighting the most extensive renovation yet at the 200,000-square-foot store that is more than 20 years old.
The store will host a grand re-opening at 8 a.m. Friday, followed by other activities and bargains this weekend.
“The renovation lasted 12 weeks – it was extensive,” Wal-Mart store manager Greg Stevens said Tuesday. He said customers like what they have seen in the completed work.
The Walton Avenue location underwent painting and other work about seven years ago, but the recent work went far beyond that.
“This is long overdue,” Stevens said. “Things were structurally improved and there was improved landscaping.”
A major part of the work was new floor tile that was laid through the entire store. The parking lot asphalt was also redone.
The remodeling includes a new look in the fresh produce area, an expanded deli and remodeled pharmacy, according to an email from the company. There are also new signs and colors in the store, courtesy of a new paint job.
Part of the new deli will feature smoked meats, hot meals and catering menus. Fresh doughnuts and bread options will continue to be available at Wal-Mart’s expanded bakery, the company email noted. Renovations have also taken place in the electronics and baby departments. The service centers were also upgraded.
The store will continue to be open 24 hours a day.
A brief ribbon-cutting ceremony will be Friday, followed by family activities and free food samples while supplies last, the email said.
On Saturday from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., customers will be provided samples of various food items and family-friendly activities.
Wal-Mart also plans to support local organizations with an investment of about $2,000 in the coming months, according to an email.
