The Warren County Public Library is a real asset to this community.

On any given day, people can be seen there getting information off of the internet, reading a book or listening to a special guest tell his or her story.

Through the years, the library has done a fine job of bringing in guests from close by and far away as part of its Author Talks series. The library does a very good job bringing in talent to our area who library employees believe will appeal to a broad audience.

Not only is the series a good chance to bring more people into the library, it is also a chance to introduce residents to people that they normally wouldn’t have a chance to meet. For example, Taya Kyle, widow of famous military sniper Chris Kyle, spoke to a large crowd in May. That was a wonderful event as Kyle had just released her book “American Wife.” Bowling Green native and well-known author Jacinda Townsend has also spoken at the series several times. When Townsend comes to town, the series typically sells out. Well-known author Joel Salatin is another major author who has spoken at the series. There are many, many more well-known authors who have spoken at the event through the years.

The latest person the library has announced is coming to speak on Aug. 4 is John Ratzenberger, who most might remember as Cliff Clavin from the sitcom “Cheers.”

Not only did Ratzenberger appear in the sitcom for 11 years, he also is an accomplished screenwriter, director, producer and author who co-authored a collection of essays on what makes America great, titled “We’ve Got it Made in America: A Common Man’s Salute to an Uncommon Country. “

Our city is very lucky to have him coming to the speak as he will certainly be most entraining and interesting to listen to and have the opportunity to meet.

This is isn’t Ratzenberger’s first trip to Bowling Green, as he has visited the National Corvette Museum before, so he is somewhat familiar with our city.

We are really excited about Ratzenberger coming back to our city to speak to our residents.

This is a real treat and we applaud the library for doing a wonderful job in bringing people such as Ratzenberger and other well known people to our city.

Author talks are just one of the many reasons why the Warren County Public Library is a very special place.
