Joshua Smith, a staff member at Community Education of Bowling Green-Warren County from 2007 to 2014, will return in July as the agency’s volunteer and outreach coordinator.
Smith is coming from Western Kentucky University, where he has served as military student consultant in the Office of Military Student Services for two years. He earned his bachelor’s degree at WKU and his master’s degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. He is also a part-time student pastor at St. James United Methodist Church.
Smith, who served as client services representative and as enrichment and volunteer coordinator during his previous tenure at Community Education, says he is ready for his new role.
“I am excited about the opportunity and what that will entail,” he said. “I think I will be coming back with more passion. I plan to hit the ground running. What I have loved most about working at Community Education is being able to make a difference in our community and partnering with other organizations to make Bowling Green and Warren County a great place to live.”
A past winner of the Anne Grubbs Spirit of Service Award presented by Volunteers in Action, Smith is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Bowling Green.
Having Smith on staff will enable Community Education to expand its outreach in the community, Executive Director Debi Wade Jordan said.
“We would like to increase our support of agencies and organizations that depend on volunteers as their primary work groups,” Jordan said. “Joshua’s experience in that arena will enhance the abilities of volunteer managers throughout our county.”
Smith will begin his new role July 5.
