All six Bowling Green Hot Rods saw action with the Eastern Division All-Stars, who rallied for an 11-10 win over the Western Division in the Midwest League All-Star game on Tuesday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
South Bend (Ind.) outfielder Elroy Jimenez hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning to cap a four-run rally that gave the East the victory.
Bowling Green’s Brett Sullivan and Kevin Padlo each had a hit, while Jake Cronenworth scored a run. Michael Russell finished 0-for-3.
On the pitching side, Genesis Cabrera allowed one run and two hits in one inning of work. Diego Castillo struck out the only batter he faced.
The Hot Rods will open the second half at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday when Fort Wayne (Ind.) comes to Bowling Green Ballpark for a four-game series.
Sullivan wins home run derby
Sullivan, currently tied for the Midwest League in home runs, won the home run derby prior to the All-Star game on Tuesday by besting Wisconsin’s David Denson in the final round.
Sullivan edged Lansing’s Juan Kelly in the semifinals on a tiebreaker, before beating Denson 3-2 in the final round.
“It was a really cool opportunity; it was just a great feeling and even a better feeling to win it,” Sullivan told the Clinton (Iowa) Herald. “I knew 10 outs, I was hoping I could get two or three out of there. You never know. It was a good feeling to get some out.”
