Bowling Green’s Perry Ayers has opted to play college basketball at Centre College.
Ayers committed last week and is hoping to sign with Centre at the end of this week or the start of next week.
“I’m really excited to play there,” Ayers said. “It’s going to be good both for basketball and my education. I’m just ready.”
Ayers said he considered Spalding University or trying to walk on at Western Kentucky University before picking Centre College.
“It was a really hard decision,” Ayers said. “That is probably the main reason it took so long, but I am really happy I chose Centre.”
Ayers played a significant role in the Purples’ three straight Region 4 titles – switching positions to play point guard his senior year, but still leading Bowling Green guards in rebounding, while being asked to defend the opponent’s top scorer on most nights.
Ayers will be reunited with former Purple Tucker Sine, a rising sophomore at Centre. Ayers said Sine was one of the first people to call him after he made his decision.
He added he is happy to have his college decision locked up.
“It felt like after I did it a whole weight came off me,” Ayers said. “It was really nice to have that and relax.”
