People will have fun on the water and help support Hospice of Southern Kentucky with the third annual Race on the River Fest.

Presented by Nat’s Outdoor Sports, the event will be Saturday at Phil Moore Park at 7101 Scottsville Road in Alvaton. This year, paddleboarders can race with the kayakers, Hospice Director of Marketing Jennifer Brashear said.

“It’s due to popularity,” she said. “We’ve had some requests to please include paddleboarders. We want everybody to have fun and help support Hospice.”

The event will include inflatables, face painting, sand digs and laser tag. Chaney’s Dairy Barn and Dewalt’s Concessions & Catering will do concessions. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Those who register in the race will be put in a drawing for three $100 gift cards to Nat’s Outdoor Sports. Nat’s and Warren County Division of Storm Water Management will have booths.

Racers will go to Phil Moore Park to check in before driving to Romanza Johnson Park, where people will store their equipment. They will drive back to Phil Moore Park and leave their vehicles. Jim Johnson will transport them back to the beginning of the race at Romanza Johnson Park.

“We have 25 participants. Last year we had 35,” Brashear said. “We would love to have 50 to 60. That would be amazing.”

Nat’s sales associate Kaile Vierstra said kayaking and being on the water have taken off in recent years.

“This is a record year for people getting on boats. People are wanting to get on the water,” she said. “You can’t go down Scottsville Road without seeing a car with a boat on it. We’re really excited.”

Participating in the Race on the River Fest is a good idea, Vierstra said.

“It’s going to a good cause,” she said. “It’s getting people outside and on the water.”

Check-in starts at 10 a.m., with the race at 11 a.m. There will be barbecue, live music and family activities. The event will include canoeing, kayaking and an inner tube race. Festival fee is $5 per person. Kids 2 and under receive free admission. Race registration is $45, but with the code 5872 you can get 20 percent off. Canoe registration is $25 per person. Registration can be done at hospicesoky.org or on the day of the event. Participants will receive a race T-shirt and promo bag. Everyone is responsible for their own equipment.
