Scary that so many agree with Trump

Have you ever noticed how we all have opinions?

It is just a fact of life. Some people, in fact, have had “enough already” and have some very strong opinions. I find it interesting how the benefit of anonymity can give such people the courage to pontificate with authority and absolute certainty. These are just opinions, but as my Uncle Carl Ezell used to say, “Some people have awfully strong opinions about their own opinions.”

Now I also have opinions, but I tend to moderate mine with the wisdom that I inherited from my paternal grandparents, who blended a branch of Butler County Republicans (the Hood family) with Logan County Democrats (the Ezell family). My Granddaddy Ezell taught me to believe only half of what I hear or read; however, my Grandmother Hood-Ezell taught me that the real smart person was the one that could figure out which half was which.

I am watching several major leaders in the Republican Party, including our own Sen. Mitch McConnell, as they try to negotiate their strong beliefs that Hillary Clinton is an evil that must be defeated at any cost. But to many, the issue is not Clinton’s progressive views; it is the simple fact that too many share Donald Trump’s racism and extremist views, even if they are not open about it.

Some say, “I am going to vote for the guy, but … .” Others say, “He clearly says and does things I don’t agree with … .” One congressman recently stated that he will vote for Trump, but he says “I completely disagree with the thinking behind that.” What are we to believe?

My opinion is that people that support Trump find that they mostly agree with him. That is scary.

What is your opinion on these issues?
