The Glasgow Independent Board of Education met Wednesday with Phil Eason of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, who they chose to be its consultant in the search for a new superintendent for the district.

The board also established a schedule for the search, Eason said.

“The board … just gave us a go-ahead for a timeline,” he said, adding that the board will take nominations for the superintendent screening committee next week.

The committee will include “two teachers, elected by the teachers; one board of education member, appointed by the board chairman; one principal, elected by the principals of the district; one parent, elected by the presidents of the parent-teacher organizations of the school district; and one classified employee, elected by the classified employees of the school district,” according to a KASA news release.

Superintendent Sean Howard will be leaving the district for a superintendent position at Ashland Independent Schools.

The board will consider the screening committee’s finalists but is not obligated to choose a candidate based on those recommendations, Eason said.

The service is expected to cost $7,000, he said, though if the board’s efforts don’t bear fruit by the Aug. 18 deadline, it will owe KASA nothing.

“We’re helping them find the best individual to lead their school district,” Eason said.
