A Bowling Green man with a previous conviction involving a minor has been formally accused of sexually abusing a girl.

Zebadiah Gabriel Cook, 37, 2745 Nashville Road, Apt. 7, was indicted Wednesday by a Warren County grand jury on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, indecent exposure and second-degree persistent felony offender.

The sexual abuse and indecent exposure counts charged against Cook stem from an incident involving a girl who reportedly occurred between April 29 and May 1, according to the indictment.

An adult relative of the girl contacted the Bowling Green Police Department on May 6 and reported that the girl told her the previous day that Cook tried to touch her genital area.

Cook denied making inappropriate contact with the girl when the adult confronted him, according to the incident report.

“She advised (Cook) stated, ‘If you don’t report anything, you will never hear from me again,’ ” the incident report said.

The girl identified in the report as the victim was interviewed at the Barren River Child Advocacy Center and told authorities that Cook tried to touch her genitals and that he “flashed” her during a separate incident.

The girl disclosed the incidents to an adult, who then notified police.

Cook was convicted in 2012 in Ohio County of second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. He was given a five-year sentence in that case, according to his indictment.

First-degree sexual abuse is a Class C felony that carries a possible maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if the victim in the case is younger than 12.

Cook’s previous felony conviction can also potentially enhance any punishment he received for the current case should he be convicted.

Warren Circuit Judge Steve Wilson has set a $10,000 cash bond.
