Greenwood girls’ basketball coach Todd Tolbert announced his retirement Wednesday, stepping down from the basketball program as well as teaching.
“It’s been a great ride at Greenwood High School,” Tolbert said. “I’ve loved coaching and have been involved in some form or fashion for 30 years. I thought it was a good time to go. There is a good group coming back, so the cupboard is not bare.”
Tolbert won 149 games over nine seasons and multiple stints as coach, including serving as the head coach when the school opened in 1990-91.
He returned to the sidelines in 2010-11, going 103-84 over six seasons with two Region 4 Tournament appearances.
Tolbert’s best season came in 2011-12, when the Lady Gators finished 24-9. He was named Region 4 coach of the year in 2011.
Tolbert also served as Greenwood’s first boys’ and girls’ soccer coach and spent 12 years as the school’s athletic director.
He’s spent 30 years in Warren County Public Schools as a teacher, starting at Warren Central before moving to Greenwood.
