Ray, Rippy combine for five hits in Campbellsville victory

Campbellsville senior second baseman Shelby Ray (Glasgow Class of 2012) and redshirt sophomore third baseman Brittany Rippy (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2013) helped the top-seeded Tigers breeze through Friday’s opening round of the Mid-South Conference Softball Championships tournament at Michael O. Buchanon Park in Bowling Green.
Campbellsville opened the double-elimination tournament with an 8-0 victory over Shawnee State (Ohio) in five innings. Ray was 3 for 3 with a triple, a double, and RBI and two runs scored in the win. Rippy was 2 for 2 with a double and also scored a run.
The Tigers later beat Saint Catharine 8-0 in six innings to emerge unbeaten after Day 1 of the tournament.
The Tigers are set to face Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday.

Brescia sophomore pitcher Shelby Franklin (Franklin-Simpson Class of 2013) turned in a solid relief outing in the Bearcats’ 2-0 loss to Rio Grande (Ohio) in the opening round of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament on Friday in Owensboro.
Franklin pitched the final three innings of the game, allowing just one earned run on four hits and a walk.
Brescia’s season ended later Friday with a 8-4 loss to Carlow (Pa.). Franklin again pitched solid long relief, and junior teammate Morgan Manning (Butler County Class of 2013) got a hit in the final game of the season.
