Greenwood High School announced Tuesday the hiring of Bob Pels as the school’s new boys’ basketball coach.
Pels, originally from Queens Village, N.Y., with over 30 years of basketball coaching experience, replaces Jordan Carter, who stepped down after two years at the end of the season.
Pels will be introduced at a news conference at 3 p.m. Monday at Greenwood High School in the school’s auditorium.
Pels most recently served as head coach for Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, Texas, where he averaged 27 wins per year. Pels has also coached at Chadwick School in Palos Verdes, Calif., Casady School in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Corydon Central High School in Corydon, Ind., and won a state championship in Vermont.
Pels inherits a Greenwood program that finished 12-18 last season. The Gators haven’t finished .500 or better since going 16-16 in 2012-13, the last time Greenwood advanced to the Region 4 tournament.
