EKU’s Brown tied for ninth in OVC golf championship

Eastern Kentucky sophomore men’s golfer Jared Brown (South Warren Class of 2014) carded a 1-over par 73 on Tuesday during the second round of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship held at the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
Brown had the second-lowest round of the day for EKU, which began the day in fourth place in the team standing and ended the second round tied for second in the tournament after tallying a combined 289.
Brown had two birdies on the first nine holes and was 1-under before running into trouble with a bogey and a double bogey on the No. 12 and No. 13 holes. He rallied with four pars and a birdie to close out his round at 73, bringing his two-day total to 148. Brown is tied for ninth in the individual standings.
EKU’s two-day total of 587 trailed leader Tennessee-Martin by just four shots.
The final round of the OVC championship is Wednesday.

Middle Tennessee State redshirt junior men’s golfer Drake Duncan (South Warren Class of 2013) mirrored the Blue Raiders’ tough day on the course Tuesday in the third round of the Conference USA Championship at the Texarkana Country Club course in Texarkana, Ark.
After shooting a low-round 69 on Monday, Duncan struggled to an 82 on Tuesday and finished at 10-over par 226 for the tournament. He tied for 29th in the individual standings.
MTSU began the second round tied for second place, but slid to fifth in the third round and missed qualifying for Thursday’s final match play round (top four teams advanced) to determine the C-USA champion.
