The award recognizes the best-performing workforces in the world, officials said in a news release.

CHC, parent company of The Medical Center and the third-largest employer in southcentral Kentucky, is one of 35 organizations in the world to receive the award and the only Kentucky-based hospital corporation. Other companies receiving the award include Hyatt Hotels, Regents Bank and PNC Bank.
CHC will receive the award at the Gallup Spring Summit on May 13-15 in Omaha, Neb. CHC also won the award in 2014.
Lynn Williams, CHC human resources vice president, will head up a team of three employees to receive the award, said Ron Sowell, CHC executive vice president and chief financial officer, on Monday.
Sowell said the reason the company won the award in 2014 and 2016 is because it only enters the competition every other year.
It is a large time commitment to survey 3,400 employees, Sowell said. The 2013 employee engagement survey qualified CHC for this year’s honor.
“Employee engagement is one of CHC’s core strategic goals,” Connie Smith, CHC president and chief executive officer, said in a news release. “It is not a one-time initiative but a culture that is woven throughout all aspects of our corporation. We at CHC recognize that a highly engaged workplace means a better place for our employees to work and a better place for patients to receive quality care.”

CHC began using the consulting services of Gallup in 2008. Over the past six years, CHC has experienced reduced employee turnover, decreased patient complaints, increased employee donations to CHC’s charity care programs and improved financial performance, the release said.
“This is just the 10th year for the Gallup Workplace Award,” Sowell said. He said the process of increased employee engagement assures a good patient outcome and a strong financial performance for the company.
During the May Gallup conference, CHC has the opportunity to present best practices applied to its workplace and show the improved business results it achieved.
“These award-winning organizations set a new standard for workplace excellence,” said Dr. James Harter, chief scientist with Gallup, in a news release. “They have proven track records for improving lives along with performance. The management tenets they practice have proven value in both thriving and struggling economies overall,” he said.
Winners of the Gallup Workplace Award come from company results being compared in more than 100 countries around the world, the release said.
