Duncan’s low-round 69 helps MTSU vault up C-USA men’s golf championship standings

Middle Tennessee State redshirt junior men’s golfer Drake Duncan (South Warren Class of 2013) fired the low round of the day Monday in the second round of the Conference USA Championship at the Texarkana Country Club course in Texarkana, Ark.

Duncan’s second-round 69 helped the Blue Raiders vault up the team standings into a tie for a second with Louisiana Tech at 289, just six shots behind second-day leader UAB.

Duncan totaled four birdies on the day to pull back to even par for the tournament on the par 72, 6,969-yard Texarkana course. 

Third-round play is scheduled for Tuesday morning, with the top four teams advancing to Wednesday’s final match play competition to determine the C-USA champion.

Eastern Kentucky sophomore men’s golfer Jared Brown (South Warren Class of 2014) fired an opening-round 3-over-75 on Monday at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship held at the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Brown recovered after carding three bogeys on the first four holes to shoot par over each of the remaining 14 holes. Brown is tied for 16th in the tournament.

Eastern Kentucky, the OVC defending champion, shot a combined 298. The Colonels are in fourth place after Day 1 of the tournament, just eight shots behind leader Jacksonville State.

Second-round play is slated for Tuesday on the par 72, 7,258-yard Fighting Joe course.
