Earth Day to be held in Franklin
Earth Day will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Franklin’s downtown square.
“This event is for the whole southcentral Kentucky region,” said Caren Gibson, SNAP education assistant for Simpson County and Earth Day committee member. “We invite everyone from the surrounding communities to spend the day with us.”
There will be more than 40 booths set up at the free festival, Gibson said.
“There will be everything from a display of how to make your own compost to a water-tasting display: ‘County Tap Versus Bottle Water – Can You Tell the Difference?’ “
Simpson County Homemakers and Soil Conservation District Office will give away free trees, while local growers will have trees, shrubs and flowers for sale. There will be live music by the Dead Broke Barons as well as activities for kids and adults. The Kids Olympics, sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Franklin-Simpson will be at 11 a.m.
A morning bike ride sponsored by the Simpson County Literacy Center will be Saturday. For more information, visit scliteracycenter.org or readtobefree.org.
An all-you-can eat pancake breakfast will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church. Admission is $5. All proceeds benefit The Try Anything Rhino Project.
“Last year’s proceeds bought a pair of night vision goggles night rangers used to protect rhinos from poachers,” Gibson said. “When we think green we think beyond the city limits. We think global.”
Naughty by Nature to perform in Bowling Green Festival
Naughty by Nature will perform at the 2016 PickAxe Summerfest alongside Kesha, Alien Ant Farm, Twang and Round and Christina Chriss. The concert will be June 18 at the Bowling Green Ballpark on Eighth Street.
Tickets range from $65 for general admission field and lower level seats to $110 for premium stadium club seats. There are no refunds and exchanges for tickets. They may be purchased at bghotrods.com.
Known for hits such as “O.P.P.” and “Hip Hop Hooray” from their self-titled debut album in 1991, Naughty by Nature will be playing their 25th anniversary tour with PickAxe Summerfest. The music of the Grammy Award-winning, Platinum-album selling, New Jersey super-group has smashed through mainstream barriers while remaining true to the sound, according to a press release.
The trio went on to produce their follow-up albums, which include 19 Naughty III in 1993, Poverty’s Paradise in 1995, Nature’s Fury in 1999 and Anthem Inc. in 2011. VH1 bestowed their “Hip-Hop Honor” to the group as innovators of our culture in 2008.
