Tibbs delivers stellar start for Kentucky Wesleyan

Kentucky Wesleyan junior pitcher Austin Tibbs (Greenwood Class of 2013) was stellar in his first start of the season Tuesday against visiting Bellarmine at Panther Park in Owensboro.

The junior left-hander got the start in Game 2 of Tuesday’s doubleheader, and delivered a complete-game performance in the Panthers’ 5-1 win. Tibbs allowed just one unearned run on seven hits and no walks while striking out three to earn the victory and improve his record to 3-2 this season.

Redshirt senior designated hitter Jeremy Cline (Warren Central Class of 2011) backed Tibbs with two hits in the game. Cline also scored a run.

Kentucky Wesleyan (26-11) returns to action Friday on the road for a doubleheader against Great Midwest Athletic Conference rival Alderson Broaddus in Philippi, W.Va.

Shawnee State redshirt sophomore Andrew Vanthournout (South Warren Class of 2013) helped the Bears to a 7-5 road win over non-conference opponent Bluefield (Va.) on Tuesday.

Vanthournout, who started in right field, was 1 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs. He also scored a run and stole a base in the win.

Shawnee State (18-29) is back in action Friday at home against Mid-South Conference rival Georgetown.
