Kentucky State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding information on a 20-year-old missing persons report.
Ora Alyne Barrick, 61, vanished on or about April 12, 1996.
Family members told police Barrick lived at the end of a remote dirt road, Laurel Ridge Road, in a cabin surrounded by 12 other cabins in Mammoth Cave.
She was last seen by neighbors on April 12, 1996, when she walked her dog. Barrick spoke to at least one person during the walk. A family member had a short conversation with her that afternoon. Barrick has not been seen or heard from since. Police found her home secured when they arrived and police found her dog. Her vehicle was also there.
A neighbor reported Barrick missing on April 15, 1996, after realizing she hadn’t been out to walk her dog, Fifi in a few days.
When Edmonson County sheriff’s deputies went to check on Barrick, they had to knock out a window to gain entry into her home, where they found her dog inside his crate. They found a small amount of blood and evidence of a struggle inside the home. The sheriff’s office initially treated the investigation as a missing persons case before turning it over to the state police, who are pursuing it as a homicide.
Barrick enjoyed spending time outdoors. Her neighborhood was filled with homes that were mostly used as vacation houses. At the time of her disappearance, she had only two permanent neighbors.
