Manning, Franklin pace Brescia softball to doubleheader sweep

Brescia junior Morgan Manning (Butler County Class of 2013) and sophomore Shelby Franklin (Franklin-Simpson Class of 2013) dominated in the pitching circle to help the Lady Bearcats to a home doubleheader softball sweep against Alice Lloyd on Friday.
Manning drove in a run in Brescia’s 9-1 win in the opener, but really came alive in Game 2. In that contest, Manning with 3 for 4 with a double and scored two runs.
Franklin started the second game and pitched all five innings in a 14-0 victory to earn a complete-game shutout. Franklin allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out three.
Brescia (9-15 overall, 4-6 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) is back in action Saturday with a home doubleheader against KIAC rival West Virginia Tech.

Campbellsville senior Shelby Ray (Glasgow Class of 2012) helped the Tigers accomplish three program milestones in Friday’s doubleheader sweep of visiting Georgetown.
Campbellsville stretched its winning streak to a school-record 25 straight, locked up at least a share of the Mid-South Conference regular-season title, and helped coach Shannon Wathen record her 500th career coaching win.
In the Tigers’ 7-1 win in Game 1, Ray was 1 for 3 and scored a run. Then in the nightcap, a 14-3 Campbellsville victory, Ray was 2 for 3 with a double and scored a run.
For Georgetown, senior Sandy Young (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2012) had a hit in the opener and drove in a run in the nightcap.
Campbellsville (41-7, 25-1 Mid-South) will square off with Georgetown (27-17, 18-8) again on Saturday in another doubleheader.
