A planned building expansion of a Buddhist temple at 255 Grassland Court was disallowed by the Board of Adjustments of Warren County on Thursday evening.

Hengbuon Sun and Chhongheng Cheu requested a conditional-use permit for a religious institution. They proposed to build a 3,200-square-foot building to go along with an existing 1,600-square-foot residence on the southern Warren County site.

Neighbors objected to the expansion, saying it would change the small, eight-family neighborhood. People currently gather at the house for conversation and prayers with the pastor or Buddhist monk.

The board approved an application by Twin Maple Properties and Uspiritus Inc. for a conditional-use permit to operate a group living facility at 331 Brookwood Drive. The facility will accommodate up to 32 residents and five staff employees. The property was granted a special exemption permit in May 1992 for a children’s home and emergency shelter.
