A Woodburn truck driver who asked Warren County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Boyden to repair his computer is now jailed on possession of child pornography charges resulting from a discovery Boyden said he made while working on the man’s computer.
Boyden began work on a laptop belonging to William Breece Dudley, 63, in September when he at some point saw a list of files infected with viruses, according to sheriff’s department records. Boyden became concerned when he saw the list of files included websites from a Russian server known for pornography including child pornography. The search brought up a list of files as small icons. Some were porn images with adult females while others were obvious underage females both clothed and nude, according to records. Boyden stopped working on the computer and called Capt. Tim Robinson who instructed him to cease working on the laptop and bring it the next day to the sheriff’s office.
Robinson met with Boyden who showed him the images that depicted what appeared to be very young females displaying their genitalia and breasts, according to records. Robinson instructed Boyden to shut down the laptop, and it was logged into evidence until a search warrant could be obtained for the device.
On March 6, Robinson obtained a search warrant for the drive on Dudley’s home computer.
That search showed that Google searches had been made for websites focused on little girls, kids, preteens and rape. Searches were also located on YouTube for “little girl bath” and “diaper change,” records show.
A Warren County grand jury indicted Dudley on March 23 on four counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. Wilson County (Tenn.) authorities arrested Dudley on Thursday, sheriff’s office spokesman Stephen Harmon said. Dudley waived extradition and was brought back to Kentucky on Saturday night where he was served with the indictment warrant and is currently in the Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond.
“While examining the data, I observed photos depicting young juvenile females with exposed underwear, in bathing suits and one in a halter top. Some of the juveniles had their legs spread or were in other sexually suggestive poses. Some of the photos depicted beach scenes and children taking baths. The juveniles ranged in age from babies to what appeared to be late teens,” Robinson wrote in a report.
Dudley does not have children or grandchildren and was not able to provide a reason for the photos of minors on his computer, according to the report. The same types of photos, searches and same sites were found on both the home computer and laptop, according to records.
On the laptop computer drive Robinson found a photo of a girl who appears to be about 10 years old with her skirt pulled up exposing her genitalia, according to the report. Other images on Dudley’s home computer drive were also found that included small children naked at the beach, wearing diapers and regular home scenes. Robinson found several computer visits to a Russian website that is a repository for images.
In a Dec. 4 interview with Robinson and Detective Bobby Kitchen, Dudley said he believed someone infected his laptop computer with child pornography causing it to shut down and then be worked on by someone for the images to be discovered, records show. Dudley denied looking at child pornography or searching for that type of content.
“In any cases dealing with child pornography, it’s important to remember these aren’t just digital images or videos,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Cohron said speaking in general terms but not specifically about this case. “These are documented incidences of child sexual abuse. It’s imperative that these cases are dealt with appropriately because undoubtedly there is a direct link between this type of material and contact offenses.”
If Dudley is convicted as charged, he could receive a 20-year prison sentence.
“This type of offense, if a conviction is obtained, results in the defendant being placed on the sex offender registry,” Cohron said.
