Manning, Franklin help Brescia to softball sweep

Brescia junior Morgan Manning (Butler County Class of 2013) and sophomore Shelby Franklin (Franklin-Simpson Class of 2014) played major roles in the Lady Cats’ softball doubleheader sweep against host Midway College on Sunday.
Manning collected four hits in the doubleheader, going 2 for 3 in Brescia’s 4-2 victory in Game 1 and 2 for 4 in the Lady Cats’ 7-2 victory in the nightcap.
Franklin earned a complete-game victory in the circle in Game 2. She allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out four.
Brescia (7-15 overall, 4-6 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) is back in action Friday with a home doubleheader against Alice Lloyd.

Campbellsville senior Shelby Ray (Glasgow Class of 2012) and sophomore Brittany Rippy (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2013) helped the Tigers extend their winning streak to 21 games with a pair of softball victories against University of the Cumberlands on Sunday.
In the opener, Ray went 1 for 2 with an RBI and two stolen bases as Campbellsville earned a 6-3 victory.
Rippy stood out in Game 2 with a solo home run over the left-field fence – her first of the season – to lead off the fourth inning. Ray added a hit and scored a run in the Tigers’ 9-0 win.
Campbellsville (37-7, 21-1 Mid-South Conference) returns to action Tuesday for a road doubleheader at Cumberland (Tenn.).

Saint Catharine sophomore Lynsie Clark (Butler County Class of 2014) helped host Saint Catharine sweep Pikeville in a Mid-South Conference softball doubleheader on Sunday.
Clark scored a run in the Patriots’ 15-5 win in the opener. In the second game, Clark sparked a go-ahead four-run rally in the fifth inning with an RBI single. She also scored two runs in the 9-5 victory.
Saint Catharine (21-25, 7-15 MSC) is back in action Tuesday with a road doubleheader at Lindsey Wilson.
