Vanthournout collects five hits for Shawnee State in doubleheader

Shawnee State sophomore infielder Andrew Vanthournout (South Warren Class of 2013) had a big day at the plate in the Bears’ baseball doubleheader sweep against visiting Point Park (Pa.) on Tuesday at Branch Rickey Park in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Vanthournout, starting at third base and batting leadoff in both games, collected five hits in all for the Bears. In the opener, Vanthournout was 2 for 3 with a double and scored a run as Shawnee State earned a 4-3 win.

Vanthournout was even more productive in Game 2, going 3 for 3 with an RBI in Shawnee State’s 3-2 win. He also scored a run and stole a base.

Shawnee State (17-21) is back in action Friday at Campbellsville.
