Former ACS star Sandy Young homers twice in Georgetown win

Georgetown College senior Sandy Young (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2012) delivered a power surge for the Tigers in a softball doubleheader road sweep Tuesday against University of the Cumberlands.

Young hit two home runs in a decisive 16-4 Game 2 victory, finishing with four RBIs and three runs scored in the game. Young also had a hit, an RBI and scored a run in Georgetown’s 6-2 win in the opener. Young also stole two bases, one in each game.

Georgetown (21-15 overall, 11-6 Mid-South Conference) is back in action Friday with a doubleheader at conference rival Cumberland (Tenn.).

Lindsey Wilson sophomore Shayna Cockrill (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2014) turned in a top-10 performance following Tuesday’s final round of the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament at Campbellsville Country Club.

Cockrill fired a second-round total of 8-over-80 for the fourth-lowest round of the day. She finished as the Blue Raiders’ second-lowest scorer at 84-80–164 to finish in a three-way tie for seventh individually and helped Lindsey Wilson to a third-place finish in the team standings.

Campbellsville freshman Kylie Withrow (Barren County Class of 2015) tied for 27th overall (88-87–176) to help the Tigers to a runner-up finish behind team champion University of the Cumberlands.

Midway College sophomore Kelsey Whitehouse (South Warren Class of 2014) just missed scoring for her team, finishing tied for 45th (99-92–191).

Campbellsville is back in action Saturday in the Pikeville Spring Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg.

Lindsey Wilson next plays April 18-20 in the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club.

Midway returns to action April 22-23 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship tournament at Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown.

Centre College junior Trevor Brewer (Greenwood Class of 2013) had a  solid day despite the Colonels’ 16-7 road loss to Spalding on Tuesday.

Brewer, starting at first base, was 1 for 4 with two RBIs in the loss. He also stole two bases and scored a run.

Centre (16-17) is back in action Saturday with a doubleheader at Southern Athletic Association rival Rhodes (Tenn.).

Saint Catharine College sophomore Lynsie Clark (Butler County Class of 2014) tallied two of the Patriots’ three hits in a 4-1 softball loss to Campbellsville on Tuesday.

Clark, who started at second base, was 2 for 2 at the plate in the defeat.

Saint Catharine (18-24 overall, 4-14 Mid-South Conference) returns to action Friday with a home doubleheader against conference rival Pikeville.
