Union College senior Zach Gross (Warren East High School Class of 2011) did a solid job Thursday of igniting the Bulldogs’ offense as the team’s leadoff hitter in both games of a doubleheader sweep against visiting Viterbo (Wis.) at Jerry W. Carey Stadium in Barbourville.
In the opener, Gross played left field and batted leadoff. He was 2 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs and scored three runs in the Bulldogs’ 18-5 victory.
Then in Game 2, Gross moved to first base but stayed in the leadoff spot in the lineup. Gross once again regularly reached base, going 1 for 2 with an RBI and drawing a pair of walks. He also stole a base and scored a run in a 10-3 victory.
Union (10-10) returns to action Friday with the opening game of a three-game series at Tennessee Wesleyan.
