Operation P.R.I.D.E. awarded a corridors mowing contract to Higgins and Son Services during its board of directors meeting Tuesday.

Higgins and Son was the low bidder at $8,500. Other bidders were Affordable Lawn Care, $12,580, and Greenwood Landscape & Nursery, $12,750, according to Angie Alexieff, Operation P.R.I.D.E. executive director.

The contract calls for mowing the Cemetery Road, Louisville Road Spur and Scottsville Road corridors. The lowest bid was $4,000 less than last year’s. The reduction is because the company uses propane rather than gasoline for mowers, the board was told.

After a short closed session, the board amended the corridor labor contract by just under $4,000.

The board also was told board member Pearl Taylor was re-appointed to the Operation P.R.I.D.E. executive committee, and board member Tonya Matthews discussed the upcoming annual awards fete for the group.

The Operation P.R.I.D.E. awards will be Aug. 26 to coincide with the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce’s last coffee hour of the season, she said. The breakfast meeting will be at La Gala in downtown Bowling Green. An estimated 250 to 300 people are expected to attend, Matthews said.

Matthews said the group will be featured on the front page of the chamber newsletter prior to the event.

In other matters, the board approved sending out a request for proposal to construct a new welcome sign along Ky. 185. The old sign was destroyed in a car crash, Alexieff said.

The group is also submitting paperwork for a $5,000 grant to pay for refacing the old welcome signs. Four of 18 welcome signs have been redone.
