Former Western Kentucky quarterback Brandon Doughty and tight end Tyler Higbee have both been officially invited to this month’s NFL Scouting Combine.
The ex-Hilltoppers were on the list of invitees released Thursday for the event, which takes place Feb. 23-29 at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis.

Doughty, who broke every school passing record during his WKU career, has been in Miami working out with NFL combine trainer Pete Bommarito and Ken Mastrole, his private QB coach.
He competed in the East-West Shrine Game last month and won Friday’s QB Accuracy Competition at the All-Star Football Challenge on ESPN2.
“I put the ball where I want to put it, and I keep improving on that,” Doughty said in a TV interview after his win. “I think accurate quarterbacks are one in a million in the NFL. I have to keep making sure that I expand my game and get better every day, and give myself a chance to play in the NFL one day. It’s a dream of mine.”
Doughty led the nation in 2015 in completion percentage (71.6 percent), passing touchdowns (48) and passing yards (5,055).
Higbee has been dealing with a sprained knee off and on since the original injury Oct. 15 at North Texas.
That ailment caused him to miss last month’s Reese’s Senior Bowl, but he’s slated to participate in some capacity at the combine. His agency, Select Sports Group, said in a statement last month that Higbee was “ahead of schedule” in his recovery from the injury.

The 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end finished the 2015 season with 48 catches for 563 yards and eight touchdowns. He missed five games because of his injury, including the Miami Beach Bowl win over South Florida.
Doughty and Higbee are slated for measurements, medical exams, media interviews and meetings with teams Feb. 25 at the combine. They’ll perform in on-field workouts Feb. 27.
Doughty and Higbee will be the first combine participants from WKU since Antonio Andrews, Jonathan Dowling and Andrew Jackson competed in 2014. The quarterback and tight end will give WKU three offensive players to compete all-time in the combine, and nine players overall.
