As his youngest son discussed joining the Western Kentucky staff this week, Oscar Brohm gushed with pride during a radio appearance Wednesday night on “The Wes and Coach Show.”

Brohm’s three sons are now tied to the WKU football program: Jeff as head coach, Brian as quarterbacks coach and Greg as director of football operations.

“I am very proud of them,” Oscar Brohm said. “You think about the fact that they’re all together doing something that they love – it’s tremendous.”

WKU announced Brian Brohm as the latest member of the staff this week. The quarterbacks position is his first coaching job after wrapping up his professional playing career.

Oscar Brohm, who played at the University Louisville like all three of his sons, said it’s wonderful for him to have his boys gathered in one place.

The patriarch said he’s enjoyed all of his experiences in Bowling Green, whether it’s attending a WKU game or watching his grandson play Little League.

“All the people that we’ve met in Bowling Green are the nicest people in the world,” Oscar Brohm said. “It’s just a great community. They’ve got great fans, and we’re just happy that they’re down there, all together at such a great place.”

Oscar Brohm said his middle son, Jeff, is enjoying the community just as much.

As Jeff Brohm’s name swirled through coaching speculation in 2015, Oscar said he barely addressed the situation with his son – except to remind Jeff where he comes from.

“He’s proud of his state,” Oscar Brohm said. “He was happy when he got the opportunity to come back to the state of Kentucky. I didn’t give him a whole lot of advice when all this stuff was going on with people mentioning his name, but I did tell him, ‘Just remember that you are a Kentucky boy getting the privilege of coaching in the state of Kentucky at a tremendous university. It might be hard to duplicate such a great situation somewhere else.’

“Now, I don’t think I had to tell him that. He loves it at Western, and he’s stated that and meant it. He loves all the people in that community.”
